Allegheny County Has Largest One-Day Coronavirus Case Increase

Here are the latest numbers on coronavirus cases in Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Allegheny County's confirmed coronavirus cases have increased to 419 as of 11 a.m. Thursday, the county health department announced. That's up from 356 cases on Wednesday and 325 cases on Tuesday.

The 63 new cases reported between Wednesday and Thursday is the largest single-day increase in the county during the outbreak.

Seventy people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 61 on Wednesday.

With 72 confirmed cases in Westmoreland County, 64 in Butler County, 54 in Beaver County and 35 in Washington County, that brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the five-county southwestern Pennsylvania region to 644 as of Thursday morning. That's up from 562 as of Wednesday morning.and 499 on Tuesday morning.

There have been six coronavirus deaths thus far in the five county region, with two deaths each in Allegheny, Butler and Beaver counties.

According to Pennsylvania Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the fourth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

All Pennsylvania counties remain under a stay-at-home order through at least April 30. Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered schools and non-life-sustaining businesses closed indefinitely.
