Coronavirus Cases Surge In Allegheny County

Here are the latest coronavirus case numbers for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA — There were no new coronavirus deaths reported in Allegheny County on Sunday, the county health department announced. The county death toll remains at 178.

However, 45 new coronavirus cases were reported. The number during the outbreak in the county now stands at 2220. The 45 new cases represent the largest single-day tally in the county since the first week of May.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and health department director Dr. Debra Bogen will hold a briefing Monday to provide information on the increasing number of cases and what the community needs to do to ensure that numbers do not spike.

Three hundred and sixty-five people people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak. There was one new hospitalization on Sunday.

With 619 confirmed cases in Beaver County, 510 in Westmoreland County, 263 in Butler County and 162 in Washington County, that brings the total number of cases in the five-county
southwestern Pennsylvania region to 3,774.

According to the state Department of Health, 312 people have died thus far in the five-county region: One hundred and seventy-eight in Allegheny County, 77 in Beaver County, 38 in Westmoreland County, 13 in Butler County and six in Washington County.
