Coronavirus Deaths On The Rise In Southwestern PA

Here are the latest coronavirus case numbers for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Coronavirus has now claimed the lives of 94 people in Allegheny County, the county health department announced Thursday. That's up from 86 on Wednesday.

The number of coronavirus cases in the county climbed to 1,289, up from 1,273 on Wednesday and 1,235 on Tuesday.

Two hundred and thirty six people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 228 on Wednesday and 222 on Tuesday.

With 392 confirmed cases in Beaver County, 386 in Westmoreland County, 175 in Butler County and 113 in Washington County, that brings the total number of cases in the five-county
southwestern Pennsylvania region to 2,355. That's up from 2,327 on Wednesday.

According to the state Department of Health, there have now been been 192 coronavirus deaths
thus far in the five-county region: Ninety-four in Allegheny County, 65 in Beaver County, 25 in Westmoreland County, six in Butler County and two in Washington County. That's up from 173 on Wednesday and 160 on Tuesday.

According to state Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the ninth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh, Luzerene, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia counties.

Gov. Tom Wolf has extended the stay-at-home order for all Pennsylvania counties until May 8, and has said the state will begin gradually reopening in May. Schools will remain closed through the end of the academic year.
