COVID-19 Claims Life Of Another Pittsburgh Police Officer
A police sergeant has become the third member of the force to recently die from the virus.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A veteran Pittsburgh police officer has become the third member of the force in the past six weeks die of COVID-19 complications.
Sgt. Timothy 'Tim' Werner, 49, of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital with members of the force by his side.
"It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Sergeant Tim Werner," Chief Scott Schubert said. "Tim has been a friend to many and a dedicated public servant for the city of Pittsburgh for many years. It's going to be extremely difficult not seeing Tim at police
headquarters every day. "

Coronavirus complications also claimed the life of Sgt. Richard 'Rick' Howe. Howe, 51, of Cecil, Washington County, who died on Oct. 21, was a 24-year-veteran of the force.
Officer Brian Rowland died Sept. 26 from COVID-19. The21-year veteran of the force worked in Zone 6 in the West End.

Sgt. Werner was entering his 22nd year with the Pittsburgh police. He was a member of the May 15, 2000 recruit class.
He worked for many years as an officer in Zones 4 and 5, but most recently as a supervisor in the property room at police headquarters.
Sgt. Werner was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral arrangements will be private.
