Coyotes Running Amuck In Pittsburgh Parks

Find out here what to do if you encounter a coyote in a city park.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Coyote sightings in some Pittsburgh parks are on the rise, according to public safety officials.

A public service announcement from Animal Care and Control, Humane Action Pittsburgh and city police is reminding people to keep their pets on a leash at all times when they are in the parks.

Though coyotes usually are nocturnal and rarely seen, coyotes can be spotted during the day, according to officials in the announcement. Seeing one is not a cause for alarm, as coyote attacks on humans are extremely rare.

Coyotes usually flee when they encounter people. When they do not run away, that's usually due to the animal being fed by people who leave pet food or garbage outside.
