Dramatic River Rescue Occurs in Pittsburgh

A man in the Allegheny River was screaming for help. Find out here what happened next.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A bystander helped save a man from drowning in the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh early Wednesday.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., Pittsburgh EMS, Police, Fire and River Rescue Units were dispatched to the North Shore River Walk in the area of the Police Memorial.

An man had fallen into the river and was hypothermic and screaming for help. A bystander was able to locate him, call 911 and hold onto his arm while units were responding.

With the bystander's assistance, was able to pull the male from the water and drag him up onto the river walk.

The unidentified man ale was treated for hypothermia and transported to the hospital in stable condition.
