Employee At Pgh. Store Photographed Woman In Changing Room: Police

The alleged incident occurred at a popular Pittsburgh retail store.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Charges have been filed against a Pittsburgh man accused of photographing a woman in a changing room while he was an employee at the Gap store on Walnut Street in Shadyside.

According to a police report, a woman in the changing room saw a cell phone appear from under the door several times. The woman reported the activity to the store manager and police.

Jimmy Almaraz, 24, denied using his phone to photograph the woman when questioned by officers who were called to the store.

Police confiscated Almaraz’s phone and reviewed surveillance footage from the store. According to police, Almaraz remotely wiped his phone the day the alleged incident occurred on Sept. 17.

Police obtained a search warrant for all of his electronic devices. The found among his Google searches, “charges for videotaping customer without consent in changing room in Pennsylvania” and “is it illegal to record someone without their permission?”

Among the charges Almaraz faces is attempted invasion of privacy to photograph someone without their consent, tampering with evidence, and possessing instruments of a crime.
