Ferris Wheel To Highlight Pittsburgh Oktoberfest Celebration

PITTSBURGH, PA — What would a major Oktoberfest event be without a large Ferris wheel?

Not as fun, for sure.

With that thought in mind, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is bringing back the Ferris Wheel on the Roberto Clemente Bridge as a key component of the city's third annual Downtown Oktoberfest event.

Now dubbed "Prostburgh," the 11-day German-inspired celebration will be filled with beer, food, music and entertainment. The event will occur Oct. 1-11.

"In simple terms, the word Prost translates to 'may it be beneficial' in English and nothing is truly more beneficial than connection," Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership board chair Shannon Baker explained.

The Oktoberfest event will take place on the Roberto Clemente Bridge and in Market Square.

Bridge attractions include a 10-minute ride on the 60-foot Ferris wheel for $7 per ticket. Also on the bridge will be Karneval-style games, family-friendly activities and unique merchandise to commemorate the event.

Ferris wheel tickets can be reserved in advance.

Market Square activities include Axe Throwing, the Devil's Wheel amusement park style ride, and games for kids in the Kinderplay area.

There also will be traditional polka and contemporary bands, a draft selection of authentic German beers and food offerings that will include Deutsch favorites such as bratwurst and knockwurst sandwiches, potato pancakes and warm pretzels.
