Flash Flood Warning Issued For Pittsburgh Area Thursday: NWS

The warning is in effect through 2:45 p.m. for central Allegheny County and northwestern Westmoreland County.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a flash flood warning for Pittsburgh and several nearby cities. The warning affects just over 1 million people.

The warning is in effect through 2:45 p.m. for central Allegheny County and northwestern Westmoreland County, according to NWS.

Affected communities include Pittsburgh, Penn Hills, Mount Lebanon, Bethel Park, Ross Township, Monroeville, McKeesport, Shaler Township, Plum, West Mifflin, North Side Pittsburgh, Baldwin, Upper St. Clair, Scott Township, Wilkinsburg, Whitehall, South Park Township, Robinson Township, Munhall and Jefferson Hills.

Just before 1:30 p.m., thunderstorms producing heavy rain pushed into the area, dropping two inches of rain in some places. According to forecasters, rainfall is expected to continue at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inch per hour.

Anyone in the affected area should immediately move to higher ground.
