Former Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charles Moffat Dies
Mr. Moffat spent 48 years in law enforcement with the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt died Sunday. He was 80.
Moffatt retired in 2016 after 12 years as superintendent and nearly a half-century career in law enforcement.
Charlie dedicated his life to law enforcement and serving the residents of this county for nearly 50 years. In addition to leading @AlleghenyCoPD for 12 years, he also served with @PghPolice
for 36 years," County Executive Rich Fitzgerald stated on Twitter. "We remain grateful for his innumerable contributions and distinguished service to this county, and extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time."

After graduating from high school, Mr. Moffatt served in the United States Air Force for eight years before joining Pittsburgh's Bureau of Police. Over the next 36 years, he became the bueau's first deputy chief before becoming county police superintendent.
Funeral arrangements were not immediately announced.
