"He led by example on and off the field with the goal of making this a better world for us all. We know he has touched so many of you and we mourn with you. We will remain steadfast in living and achieving the world he wanted to build."

Harris died just days before the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, the most famous play in NFL history that gave the Steelers a 1972 playoff victory over the Oakland Raiders. The Steelers previously announced that Harris' number 32 would be retired at halftime of Saturday's Steelers-Raiders game and the team will proceed with those plans.
