Freezing Rain Forecast For Pittsburgh, Western PA

The National Weather Service says Pittsburgh and portions of Allegheny County could be impacted by a coming winter storm.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A powerful winter storm will leave its mark on Western Pennsylvania in the form of freezing rain. While the Pittsburgh area currently is not under any alerts, the National Weather Service said early Tuesday that impactful freezing rain could occur late Wednesday night into Thursday and that a winter hazard alert could be issued.

Currently, the weather service is predicting as much as a tenth of an inch of freezing rain could fall in the northern Allegheny County communities of Marshall, Bradford Woods, Pine, Richland, West Deer, Frazer, Fawn and Harrison. Cranberry Township in southern Butler County also could see that amount.

The weather service says there could be a brief period of freezing rain in Pittsburgh on Thursday morning.

More significant amounts are likely more north and east of Allegheny County. Winter storm watches have been issued for portions of Westmoreland and Indiana County.

The heaviest amounts of freezing rain likely will fall between 1 a.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. Thursday.
