GoFundMe Set Up To Support Pittsburgh-Area Food Banks
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

PITTSBURGH, PA – An online fundraiser has been set up for Pittsburgh-area food banks suffering during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Food pantries across the country say they are in desperate need of donations as they try to meet the needs of people suffering from food insecurity due to business closures, layoffs and school closings.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Organizers said this GoFundMe campaign was started to raise money that will go directly to feeding "neighbors in need."

As of Friday afternoon, the campaign had raised nearly $7,000. The original goal was set for $5,000.
According to the campaign's page, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food bank works with over 360 food assistance partners, which includes volunteer-driven nonprofits, emergency shelters, senior programs and soup kitchens to hand out over 35 million meals annually in Allegheny and 10 surrounding counties.

According to a press release sent out on Friday, GoFundMe has seen an increase in fundraising efforts globally through tens of thousands of fundraisers, as communities rally to support the most vulnerable.
