Hanks Likes Pittsburgh, Popular Bar Closing & More: Weekly Wrap

The top news of the week, presented here in convenient linkable format.

PITTSBURGH, PA - We come to the Weekly Wrap this week to give kudos to Tom Hanks for publicly acknowledging what we already know: Pittsburgh truly is someplace special.

The Oscar-winning actor, who has been in town filming a movie about a certain sweater-wearing Pittsburgh icon, took to Facebook and Twitter to give a simple sincere shout-out to the city. Not surprisingly, the posts went viral and were liked and-or retweeted by tens of thousands of people (presumably by Pittsburghers, as folks from Cleveland don’t usually profess much affection for the Steel City).

Contrast Hanks’ nice gesture to that of Sienna Miller (who?), a British actress who was here in 2006 to film “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh.” She disparaged the city in an interview by describing it with a word that rhymes with, well, Pitt.
