Here's Where To Recycle Christmas Trees In Southwestern PA
Allegheny County and the city of Pittsburgh are offering Christmas tree recycling tree programs. Find out here where to recycle your tree.
PITTSBURGH, PA — It's depressing, but eventually all of the lights, ornaments and tinsel have to come off of the Christmas tree and it has to be discarded. To make that chore easier, Allegheny County and the city of Pittsburgh both will offer tree recycling programs.
The county program runs from Dec. 26 until Jan. 14; the city program runs from Dec. 26 until Jan. 26.
During the 2019-20 county program, approximately 3,500 trees were received and recycled, with the resulting mulch used for various purposes throughout the park system’s 12,000-plus acres. This year's drop-off locations:

- Boyce Park: Soccer Fields Parking Lot
- Deer Lakes Park: Veterans Shelter Parking Lot
- Harrison Hills Park: Parking Lot at Chipmunk Drive & Cottontail Drive
- Hartwood Acres Park: Mansion Parking Lot
- North Park: Swimming Pool Parking Lot
- Round Hill Park: Alfalfa Shelter Parking Lot
- Settlers Cabin Park: Wave Pool Parking Lot
- South Park: Wave Pool Parking Lot
- White Oak Park: Chestnut Shelter Parking Lot
Trees in the city's recycling will be chipped into pine mulch and made available to the public for free in the spring. Last year, more than 109 tons of trees were mulched at the city's 12 drop-off sites.
The city had reduced the number of drop-off sites to five this year because of staffing issues associated with the coronavirus outbreak. The locations:
