Innamorato Makes History As Allegheny County's New Chief Executive

PITTSBURGH, PA — Sara Innamorato made history Tuesday by being sworn in as the first female Allegheny County Chief Executive. She succeeds Rich Fitzgerald, who was term-limited and left office after 12 years.

Innamorato, 37, of Lawrenceville, was sworn in at the Byham Theater in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Innamorato is a former state representative now in charge of a county with a population of 1.2 million, a $3 billion budget, 7,500 employees, 400 miles of roads and 500 bridges.

In the state House, she served as vice-chair of the Allegheny County delegation and as a member of committees for house finance; labor and industry; transportation; health; and housing and community development.

Innamorato is a founding member of the Welcoming PA Caucus and the Pittsburgh City-Wide Task Force on Employee Ownership. She also has served as treasurer of the Urban Redevelopment Authority and vice chair of the Allegheny County Housing Authority.

She is a graduate of North Hills High School and the University of Pittsburgh.
