Kennywood Kept Steel Curtain Closure Secret To Boost Sales: Lawsuit
In the class-action lawsuit filed in Allegheny County, a season ticket holder claimed he felt swindled by park owners, reports said.

WEST MIFFLIN, PA — A New Kensington man is suing Kennywood and the park's owners, claiming they kept this year's closure of the Steel Curtain roller coaster a secret to boost season pass sales, according to multiple reports.
Last week, Kennywood officials announced the Steel Curtain would close for the 2024 season to undergo "an extensive modification project," according to a statement on the park's website. The 220-foot-tall coaster is one of the park's flagship attractions.
According to the class-action lawsuit filed Monday, Joshua Miller — a season pass holder — and his attorney accused the park of enticing others to buy passes by advertising several park attractions including the Steel Curtain, according to a TribLive report.

In the lawsuit, Miller states that he thought the Steel Curtain would be operating when he purchased passes for the season and accuses Kennywood of knowing it would need to close the roller coaster this season, but opted to withhold the information to avoid losing customers.
The lawsuit, also obtained by WPXI, accuses Festival Fun Parks, Palace Entertainment and Kennywood of unjust enrichment and violating the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Law.

The lawsuit is seeking monetary damages for all season ticket holders, reports said.
The Steel Curtain opened in 2019 and was named after the heralded Pittsburgh Steelers defenses of the 1970s. The coaster anchors Kennywood's Steelers Country area and is surrounded by attractions and games inspired by the football team.
The ride reaches a top speed of 75 mph on 4,000 feet of track. When it opened, it won the Golden Ticket Award for best new rollercoaster.
