Landing NFL Draft To Have Enormous Impact On Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and Pittsburgh officials took a victory lap Thursday to celebrate the city landing the 2026 NFL Draft. The league on Wednesday officially announced Pittsburgh will host the roving mega-event whose attendance topped 750,000 last month in Detroit.

The event in Pittsburgh is expected to draw as many as a million people over three days. Regional tourism agency VisitPittsburgh estimates the draft could pump as much as $160 million in direct spending into Pennsylvania coffers.

Few additional details emerged regarding the draft on Thursday, but the mood was jubilant at Acrisure Stadium. Gathered there were Steelers President Art Rooney II, Gov. Josh Shapiro, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey.

“Pittsburgh has established itself as one of the most dynamic cities in the country – and it is the best choice to host the draft," Shapiro said.

"With all eyes on Pennsylvania during America’s 250th birthday in 2026, the commonwealth is excited and ready to work together to host this historic draft and show the country what Pennsylvania is all about.”
