Longtime Pittsburgh Radio Legend Dies

This radio personality left a lasting imprint on radio in Pittsburgh and other markets.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Clarke Ingram, a fixture in Pittsburgh radio who also served as a DJ and radio programmer in other markets, has died.

Mr. Ingram, who had battled numerous health problems, died Saturday. He was 66.

The Pittsburgh native and Point Park College (now university) graduate worked at WXKX (96KX), a top 40 music station whose sister station was WTAE-AM (1250). He also served as the program director at WBZZ (B-94), now 93.7 The Fan, which was another successful top 40 station in town.

He also worked at 3WS and, prior to his retirement, had a stint at WZUM in Braddock.

According to RadioInk, Mr. Ingram also held programming positions at WPXY in Rochester and KRQQ in Tucson, also serving as operation s manager at KZZP in Phoenix.

"Hearing Clarke on the air made you want to be a DJ. And if you were already a DJ, he made you want to be a BETTER one," Chicago-based radio personality Jeff Mason posted about Mr. Ingram on social media. "The stations Clarke programmed were amazing. KRQQ in Tucson, AZ had the highest ratings of any top 40 station in America when he was in charge."
