Major Traffic Jams Expected As Pittsburgh Bridge Project Begins

Renovations to a decaying Pittsburgh bridge likely will cause significant traffic delays for months.

PITTSBURGH, PA —Prepare for major delays on and around a heavily traveled city bridge.

The four-lane Glenwood Bridge will be reduced to two lanes – one in each direction – beginning at 7 p.m. on March 4. The restrictions will be in place until October.

The restrictions are required for $4.4 million in bridge preservation work, including steel, deck, sidewalk and drainage work. At some point during the project, the northbound ramp from Route 837 to the Glenwood Bridge will fully close for about a month.
