Make Fish Fries Takeout Only, Pittsburgh Diocese Says
The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh continues to respond to the coronavirus outbreak.
PITTSBURGH, PA - The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is encouraging all parishes with Lenten fish fries to become takeout only events as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread nationwide. The diocese in a release Thursday also urged parishes to consult local health departments for advice on the best take-out hygiene practices during the outbreak.
The diocese also announced that although masses will continue under previously announced safeguards, all nonessential diocesan-sponsored gatherings are canceled effective immediately. Specific cancellations include public listening sessions that Bishop David Zubik had scheduled for this month, the Arise youth event that will be rescheduled and parish assemblies to plan for possible mergers.
Zubik said in a release that these moves were being made "out of an abundance of caution."
