Man Arrested After Allegedly Threatening Polling Place Gunfire

More minor issues plagued several other southwestern Pennsylvania polling places.

PITTSBURGH, PA - A man was arrested at a Washington County polling place after allegedly threatening to open fire in the place, WPXI-TV reported.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Queen, allegedly became angry after arriving at the South Franklin Fire Hall and telling campaign workers he was promised money and a gun if he voted a straight-party ticket. WPXI reported that when Glenn was told he wasn’t registered to vote, he threatened to return and shoot up the place.

Other issues at southwestern Pennsylvania polls were not as potentially violent, but Allegheny County election officials reported the following problems:

In Bellevue, a judge overslept and a polling place opened late.

In Squirrel Hill, a judge had a medical emergency last night and is still hospitalized. The polling place opened and voters used emergency ballots with an interim judge.

In a Collier precinct, only one elections board member showed up. Extras were dispatched.

In McCandless, one polling place didn’t open until 7:15 a.m. Paper ballots were used until that time.

Anecdotally, turnout is reported higher than normal throughout the county.
