Man Shot Multiple Times In Altercation With Pittsburgh-Area Police

Gunfire was exchanged Wednesday between a 31-year-old man and suburban Pittsburgh police officers

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday in Wilkins Township.

Shortly after noon, county 911 was notified of a man with a gun in the 1100 block of Penn Center Boulevard. Preliminary information indicates the man had gotten into an altercation with an apartment building maintenance worker and threatened the worker with a gun.

Officers from multiple local police responded to the scene and encountered a man in a garage with a gun. The man refused commands to drop the weapon and a Churchill police officer fired a less lethal round in an attempt to subdue him.

The man fired one shot towards the officer. Two other Churchill officers returned fire and struck the man multiple times.

The suspect, Khalil Collier, 31, was taken to a nearby hospital and is in critical information.

Collier has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and persons not to possess a firearm.
