PITTSBURGH, PA — Two days after the worst one-day snow accumulation in Pittsburgh in nearly 16 years, life has not yet gotten back to normal for Western Pennsylvania residents.
Pittsburgh and Allegheny County remain under separate disaster emergency declarations. Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor issued the city's declaration early Monday after 37 of 95 plowing trucks in an aging public works fleet became inoperable during Sunday night's shift. O'Connor's move will make it easier for the city to bring in outside contractors to plow the snow.
Hours later, county Executive Sara Innamorato declared a disaster emergency for the entire county, which will enable the county to bypass normal procedures and immediately deploy all available resources for emergency response and recovery.
