Mice Dining On Potato Chips In Pittsburgh Variety Store

The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert because of the rodents.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert after inspectors found evidence that mice are eating some of the food at the Dollar Tree on Penn Avenue in East Liberty.

Inspectors also found that mouse dropping were “too numerous to count” in a back storage area.

The inspection revealed numerous mouse droppings below a long candy and chip aisle, with a large amount of food and torn packaging material present along the shelf. A mouse snap-trap was found to be sprung under the candy section.

Two packages of potato chips in the chip aisle had packaging torn through with droppings present below the items. Droppings also were found in a front cash register area used primarily for storage.

The health department is mandating that all rodent droppings must be removed from facility and all damaged packaging be discarded.
