Mice Like Doughnuts, Doritos At Pittsburgh Convenience Store

The Allegheny County Health Department orders the business closed until further notice after detecting rodent infestation.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Allegheny County Health Department has ordered a Hill District convenience store closed after multiple mouse droppings were found throughout the business - including the inside of food boxes, on shelves, under equipment and near a floor wall juncture.

Wylie Tobacco at 2152 Wylie Ave. will be closed until further notice.

According to a Feb. 16 inspection report, inspectors found:

  • Multiple bags of chip found torn open on storage shelves with gnaw marks.
  • Multiple boxes of candy and chips contaminated with mice droppings.
  • Two packages of honey bun found torn open with chew marks.
  • A bag of Doritos found torn open with chew marks.
  • Multiple bags of popcorn torn open with chew marks.
  • A Package of chocolate doughnuts found chewed open.
  • Multiple packages of sunflower seed found chewed open.

The closure order comes two months after the health department issued a consumer alert at the store after popcorn, chips, sunflower seeds and a Kit Kat bar were found with gnaw marks.
