Mice At The Movies: Pittsburgh Theater Overrun By Rodents

The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the theater.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Rodent infestation has prompted the Allegheny County Health Department to issue a consumer alert for the Phoenix Theaters Chartiers Valley Stadium 18 cinemas in Bridgeville.

Health inspectors found mouse droppings “too numerous to count” in the facility, including every cabinet used to store butter dispensers; in a cabinet used for bulk candy storage and on the floor behind a table used to season pretzels.

Droppings also were found in all cabinets along the cash register line; in all cup storage areas; in small cut-outs used to store cash drawers along the register line; behind and all around an unused ice machine and freezer in a back area; an on the floor below and around the dish machine.

According to the inspection report, there also was a large amount of old food spillage and debris present below multiple cabinets in the service area; large amounts of old food spillage in cabinets below the condiment stations; unidentified debris in various hand sinks and floor drains.

Inspectors also found old popcorn had accumulated in many areas and observed pots were full of grease and food. They also noticed between 10 and 15 fruit flies.

The theater has been ordered to contact a certified pest control operator, remove all mouse droppings, thoroughly clean the theater, monitor for mouse activity, clean out the floor drains and clean all utensils.
