New Weather Advisory Issued For Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — A dual punch of snow and frigid temperatures is about to impact Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania and has prompted a weather advisory for the region.

The National Weather Service says two rounds of snow will occur today. Accumulations are expected to be relatively light, topping out at about two inches.

The snow is expected to begin in Pittsburgh no later than 9 a.m.

The first wave of snow will end in the early afternoon locally and exit the ridges by 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Snow squalls are possible around 5 p.m.-7 p.m. as a secondary cold front moves through the area. The snow is expected to end overnight.

The front's passage means a return to bitterly cold temperatures. The weather service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory in effect from 1 a.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

During the advisory period, the weather service warns that wind chills could be as cold as 20 degrees below zero and could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

The high temperature on Saturday is expected to top out at 14 degrees. The low Saturday night will be three degrees below zero.

The high on Sunday will be 20, with a warming trend expected next week.
