'No Restaurants On Mt. Washington,' Business Official Claims
The company is exiting Mt. Washington partly due to a lack of nearby restaurants. One of the nation's best eateries is across the street.
PITTSBURGH, PA —Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights' lively dining scene apparently has escaped the view of a business official whose company is moving Downtown. Signature Financial Planning is jettisoning headquarters in the Trimont on Grandview Avenue to the Citizens Bank Building on William Penn Place in March.
“There’s no restaurants around. No life,” chief investment officer Aaron Leaman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about life on the mount.
“You leave our office and either go to Monterey Bay or LeMont or you’re just not staying here.“We want to go someplace where there’s a little more life, a little more action, that will be easily accessible for our clients and yet still give people an opportunity to go to lunch or go to dinner after they come see us."

So, OK. In addition to Monterey Bay or LeMont, within feet of the Trimont, you have:
- Altius, which last month made Open Table's list of the 100 best eateries in the nation.
Open Table wrote in its evaluation: "As executive chef and partner of Altius, Jessica Bauer's approach to contemporary American cuisine is refined and modern with a respect for the integrity and quality of her ingredient driven menu.

"Your first visit may be for the view, but you will return again and again to enjoy one of Pittsburgh’s best premiere fine dining experiences. With modern surroundings, higher hospitality and an organic and sustainable wine menu, every part of your experience has been thought of and designed with care."
- The Steel Mill Saloon, a popular place that usually is packed with people enjoying the restaurant's selection of food, craft beer and cocktail options.
- The Grandview Saloon, which indeed has a grand view and some stunning menu items.
A mile away, about a two-minute drive from the Trimont residential and office complex, you have on Shiloh Street Redbeard's, which also has a Downtown location; The Summit and Sloppy Joe's.
Around the corner from Shiloh, there is Coughlin's Law.
Are there more dining options Downtown? Certainly. But there is no shortage of them on Mt. Washington.
