Obtaining Real ID Gets Easier For PA Residents
PennDOT is expanding the documents people can use to verify their Social Security number to get a Real ID.

HARRISBURG, PA — PennDOT is providing more identification options for those seeking to get a Real ID.
Under federal law, those attempting to get a Real ID must present proof of a Social Security number. PennDOT previously required people to present their Social Security card to meet that requirement.
But the agency announced Wednesday it now will accept a W-2 form, an SSA-1099 form, a non-SSA-1099 form or a pay stub with the applicant's name and entire Social Security number on it.

Real IDs aren't required in Pennsylvania, but driver's licenses must be REAL IDs by May 7, 2025 in order to be used as identification to board a domestic flight or enter a federal building that requires identification. Passports remain valid for flights as well.
People seeking to get a Real ID can do so by bringing the necessary verification documents to any driver's license center. In addition to providing proof of a Social Security number, two documents proving a current Pennsylvania address and proof of all legal name changes.
