PA Health Officials Giving Out Free Naloxone Kits In Pittsburgh

Naloxone, the opioid overdose reversing drug, will be free to residents as part of a state initiative to curb the number of overdoses.

PITTSBURGH, PA - In an ongoing effort to combat opioid overdoses, the Pennsylvania
Department of Health is launching a statewide initiative to distribute the overdose-reversal medication naloxone. Naloxone kits will be distributed for free at 95 locations, including six in Allegheny County, as part of "Get Help Now Week."

From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at five of the six locations on Wednesday, Sept. 18, community members can get their free kits to help those suffering from the disease of opioid-use disorder.

  • Focus On Renewal Community Center, 420 Chartiers Avenue, McKees Rocks.
  • Hilltop Family Support, 1630 Arlington Ave., Mt. Oliver.
  • Mon-Yough Community Services, 339 Fifth Ave., McKeesport.
  • House of Manna Faith Community, 7240 Frankstown Ave., Homewood.
  • Allegheny Elks Lodge #339, 400 Cedar Ave., North Side.

The kits also will be available at the Allegheny County Health Department Pharmacy at the Clack Health Center in Lawrenceville on Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those who do get a kit are asked to take a selfie, post it on Facebook or Twitter and share why you carry naloxone. State officials are encouraging post to include #WhyICarryNaloxone.

To receive a certificate of completion for naloxone training, you must watch the video on TRAIN PA. You will not receive a certificate for watching on this page or on YouTube.


In Pennsylvania, the standing order signed by Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine allows anyone to get naloxone without a prescription. Completing the training on TRAIN PA and printing a certificate of completion will protect you legally as a Good Samaritan trying to help someone in need.
