PENNSYLVANIA — If you're weary of winter's snow and frigid temperatures, you likely have your sights set on more pleasant weather in the spring. But forecasters are divided on when a seasonal warmup could begin.

The Weather Channel predicts above-average temperatures for the state in March, while State College-based AccuWeather believes winter's grip will hang on well into the month.

The Weather Channel is forecasting warmer than average temperatures for much of the nation from February through April, including most of Pennsylvania. Temperatures could be well above average for most of the state throughout March, the channel predicts.

AccuWeather's long-range forecasters aren't nearly as optimistic. They think that while the cold weather pattern that has been prevalent in much of the state will break in March, that won't trigger the end of cold and snowy conditions.

"There's going to be some type of setback as we head into either late March or April," AccuWeather forecaster Paul Pastelok said on the company's website.

AccuWeather says the potential for frost and freezes will linger a week or two later than usual, which could impact when farmers and gardeners begin their spring planting.
