PA The State With The Third-Most Coronavirus Restrictions: Study

A WalletHub analysis has concluded that only two states have stronger restrictions in place.

PENNSYLVANIA — With some contending Pennsylvania has been overly cautious as it has reopened after the coronavirus-related shutdown, a new study has concluded that Pennsylvania is the state with the nation's third-most coronavirus restrictions. According to the personal finance website WalletHub, only New Jersey and California have stronger restrictions in place.

WalletHub conducted the study as spikes in COVID-19 have led to some states slowing their reopening process. To rank the states from fewest to most coronavirus restrictions, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 18 key metrics.

The analysis ranged from whether a state has any penalties for non-compliance with COVID-19 legislation to a state has required face masks in public and health checks at restaurants.

Here's how Pennsylvania ranked in several metrics, with a state ranked 1 having the fewest restrictions and a state ranked 50th having the most:

  • Requirement to wear a face mask in pubic: 23rd
  • Workplace temperature screening: 28th
  • Reopening of child-care programs: 31st
  • Travel restrictions: 15th
  • Large gathering restrictions: 34th
  • Reopening of non-essential businesses: 23rf
  • Reopening of restaurants and bars: 48th.
  • Working from home requirements-recommendations: 15th

The study appears to confirm that the state has been extremely stringent regarding bars and restaurants, which has frustrated many owners of such establishments. Dozens of restaurant owners rallied in suburban Pittsburgh on Monday to protest the state currently limiting capacity in bars and restaurants to 25 percent.
