Farmers' Almanac Makes PA Winter Weather Predictions For 2021-22
How harsh will the upcoming winter be? Farmers' Almanac has released its annual forecast for Pennsylvania.
You might be sunning yourself at the beach right now, but it won't be long before you're shoveling snow. Although temperatures across Pennsylvania are expected to be near or top 90 this weekend, weather forecasters are concentrating on a certain upcoming snowy season.
Farmers' Almanac just released its highly anticipated forecast for the 2021-22 winter (the publication should not be confused with its rival seasonal weather prognosticator, The Old Farmer's Almanac.) Will this winter prompt extensive use of snowblowers?
Across America, Farmers' Almanac forecasts near-normal amounts of snow but cautions there will be month-to-month variations. Pennsylvania and much of the east coast should expect a stormy January and a relatively quiet February.

Across the eastern third of the nation, temperatures overall should range from near-normal to somewhat below average.
January will bring an active storm front along the Atlantic seaboard and provide a mixed bag of precipitation in the form of rain, snow sleet and ice. Western Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley will have "more than their fair share" of snow that month.

Although the storms should die down for much of February, Farmers' Almanac predicts a "winter whopper" for portions of the Northeast and Ohio Valley toward the end of the month.
Those hoping for an early spring likely will be disappointed.
Unseasonably cold temperatures are forecast for much of the month. Also, a late winter storm is predicted for the East Coast and Midwest around the middle of the month, and a nor'easter is expected along the East Coast near the month's end.
Farmers' Almanac dates back to 1818 and publishes its annual edition every August.
