1. Former PA State House Candidate Indicted On Child Pornography Charge (patch.com) — Federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh have indicted 20-year-old Justin Marshall Byers of New Castle on a charge of possessing child pornography, with the case filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Authorities say multiple electronic devices were seized during the investigation, and Byers, a former candidate for state House and local school board, now faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
   

2. Pittsburgh-Area Borough Mayor Resigns Amid Hidden Camera Accusations (patch.com) — Residents in the Pittsburgh-area borough of Glassport are getting a new mayor after Keith DiMarco resigned following criminal charges that he allegedly placed a hidden camera in his home bathroom. Borough council quickly named its president as acting mayor and now has 30 days to appoint a replacement, while DiMarco faces invasion of privacy counts and a preliminary hearing in September.
   

3. Health Department Orders Closure Of Pittsburgh Restaurant (patch.com) — Pittsburgh diners in North Oakland should know that Chaai & Chaatwala on Centre Avenue has been ordered closed by the Allegheny County Health Department after inspectors found rodent droppings, sewage issues, and unsafe food temperatures. The restaurant must fix drainage, sanitation, refrigeration, and permitting problems before it can reopen to the public.
   

4. Prominent Pittsburgh Attorney Charged In Penn State Coke Ring Case (patch.com) — Pittsburgh readers are learning that local attorney Paul R. Robinson, a managing partner at Downtown-based Meyer Darragh, has been charged in connection with an alleged Penn State cocaine ring involving his son. State prosecutors say Robinson tried to conceal a safe with drugs and cash, while his firm stresses the allegations are personal to him and that he is presumed innocent as the case moves toward an Aug. 26 preliminary hearing.
   

5. Homicides up so far in 2026 in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County (cbsnews.com) — Homicides in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County are running ahead of last year, with 50 killings countywide so far and 25 inside the city, including recent shootings in Homewood and Bedford Dwellings. Police say the latest city homicides appear to be isolated, not random, and are reviewing camera footage while detectives investigate. County officials stress that, despite the uptick from 2025, violence remains below earlier peak years and they're continuing major investments in prevention.
