1. Health Department Shuts Down Pair Of Pittsburgh-Area Restaurants (patch.com) — Pittsburgh-area diners should know that the Allegheny County Health Department has temporarily closed Chicken Hut in Dravosburg and Al's Fish & Chicken in Duquesne after serious sanitation and equipment violations. Inspectors reported wastewater accumulation, insect and fly activity, and a leaking grease trap, and both restaurants must complete extensive cleanup and repairs before reopening. Residents can review full inspection reports through the county's online database.
   

2. Ross Park Mall Landing International Retailer (patch.com) — Shoppers in the Pittsburgh area can look forward to Zara opening its first local store at Ross Park Mall in Ross Township in 2028, marking the brand's Pittsburgh debut. Mall owner Simon says the addition highlights the strength of the Pittsburgh market and is part of a broader effort to transform Ross Park into a premier regional shopping destination.
   

3. Pittsburgh Area Sets Tornado Record: National Weather Service (patch.com) — Pittsburgh-area meteorologists have confirmed that a brief EF-0 tornado in Armstrong County has pushed the National Weather Service's Pittsburgh office to a record 30 twisters in its warning area this year. Covering 35 counties across Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia, the office has now surpassed its previous annual tornado record set in 2024. No injuries were reported from the Orchard Hills touchdown.
   

4. As Pittsburgh rape suspect is arrested in New York, DA takes aim at South Side bar where victim drank before assault (post-gazette.com subscription) — Allegheny County's district attorney plans to seek action against Capo's bar on East Carson Street after a woman was allegedly raped in a nearby South Side parking lot earlier this month. Pittsburgh police units arrested the suspect in Staten Island, and the DA cites a pattern of prior violence around the bar as he targets its liquor license.
   

5. Pittsburgh Regional Transit begins prep work on Panhandle Bridge for $58M rehab project (wpxi.com) — Pittsburgh Regional Transit has started early work on the Panhandle Bridge ahead of a $58 million rehab that will eventually affect light rail service into Downtown Pittsburgh. Major construction begins in spring 2027, bringing single-tracking, weekend closures, and detours while crews repair steel and concrete, replace rail and power lines, and add new lighting to extend the bridge's life.
