Penguins Executive, Former Pittsburgh Mayoral Spokesman Dies

Tim McNulty, perhaps best known as the spokesman for former Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, has died at 54.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Tim McNulty, who had successful jobs in journalism, city government and professional sports operations, died on Friday.

McNulty, of the North Side, died Friday following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 54.

McNulty's death was announced by Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey on social media over the weekend.

"Today, our city mourns the loss of (a) community leader," Gainey stated on Facebook."We offer our sincerest condolences to Tim’s friends and family as they navigate this incredible loss, and hope his memory continues to be a blessing today and every day."

McNulty joined the staff of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 1996 and spent 18 years at the paper. His primary focus was political reporting.

In 2014, he became communications director for former Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto. He spent the next seven years crafting news releases and handling City Hall media inquiries.

As Peduto was preparing to leave office in 2021, McNulty took a position with the Pittsburgh Penguins as the team's vice president of public affairs.

Funeral arrangements were unavailable Monday.
