PITTSBURGH, PA — Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Pittsburgh Penguins, is buying AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh, according to a report in the Sports Business Journal. AT&T SportsNet is the TV home of the Penguins and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The purchase ensures that the Penguins will have a TV when the hockey season begins in October. Warner Brothers Discovery Sports, AT&T SportsNet's current owner is getting out of the regional sports network business.

The move is not a surprise, as Fenway not only owns the Pens but also has a majority stake in the New England Sports Network.

The Pirates' TV future is a bit murkier at the moment.

According to Sports Business Journal, the team is negotiating with Fenway to remain on the regional sports network. But the team also could sell its rights to Major League Baseball, which would produce the broadcasts and work on cable and satellite distribution of them.
