Pirates Sign Free Agent Potato Pete To Run In Pierogi Races

There will be an additional pierogi on the field at PNC Park this season.

PITTSBURGH, PA — With the exception of Andrew McCutcheon, the Pirates announced on Wednesday what likely is their most significant free-agent signing of the off-season: Potato Pete.

Pete will join Sauerkraut Saul, Cheese Chester, Jalepeno Hannah, Oliver Onion and Bacon Burt in in running the Great Pittsburgh Pierogi Race during every Pirates home game.

Pete's signing was announced on PNC Park's Twitter page.

The Pirate pierogies are an important part of in-game entertainment for all Pirates games.

Following the end of the 5th inning, the pierogies take the field to run the 280-yard race.

They also make various appearances in the community, ranging from parades to private functions and also nonprofit events.
