Pirates Superstar To Miss Rest Of The Season

One of the Pirates best players is done for the year because of injury.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Andrew McCutchen's return to the Pirates this year has widely celebrated by fans when he signed a one-year contract with the team. There will be no celebrating the news that McCutchen is out for rest of the season after partially tearing his left Achilles tendon in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers Monday night.

McCutchen will not require surgery but will need to wear a walking boot for six weeks. The Pirates season ends in a little over three weeks with an Oct. 1 home game against the Miami Marlins.

McCutchen, one of the all-time Pirates greats, returned to the team in January, six years after he was traded to the San Francisco Giants. Since then, he also has played for the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers

Primarily serving as a designated hitter this season, McCutchen, 36, hit .256 with 12 home runs and 43 RBIs. He collected his 2,000th double in June, but will fall short of his goal of smashing his 300th career home run. He will spend the off-season stuck at 299.
