Pittsburgh-Area Heat Wave Returning

Following a one-day break, oppressively hot weather is returning to Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Hope you enjoyed the one-day respite from the oppressive heat and humidity that had Southwestern Pennsylvania in its grip for days, because stiflingly hot weather returns to the region on Friday.

After temperatures were in the low- to mid-80s with occasionally breezy conditions Thursday, the National Weather Service predicts the high today will be 90.

For Saturday and Sunday expect sunny skies and a high in the low 90s. On Sunday, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the day.

Temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s Monday and Tuesday, although there is an increasing chance of storms that could provide temporary relief from the heat. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent on Monday and 50 percent on Tuesday.

More comfortable weather finally arrives on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-80s.

The city of Pittsburgh activates cooling centers in some senior centers when the temperature exceeds 90 and is expected to do so again with this next surge of hot weather. The centers, located in Beechview, Brighton Heights, Greenfield, Homewood, Sheraden and on the South Side, typically are open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
