Pittsburgh Deep Freeze Ends, Relatively Sultry New Year's Day Coming
After a frigid Christmas weekend, expect moderating temperatures as 2022 comes to a close.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The subzero temperatures are gone. The wind chill warnings have expired. After one of the coldest Christmas days in decades, Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania will end the year on a warmer note.
While temperatures won't top the freezing mark on Tuesday, they definitely will on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

In fact, as we inch close to New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, it's going to feel downright balmy after those subzero wind chills of the weekend. The normal daily high for Pittsburgh in December is 39 degrees. We're going to be well above that as we prepare to watch the fireworks during the city's First Night celebration on Saturday night.

We're anticipating just one more day below freezing before we warm up into the 40s and 50s. This might not be the ideal forecast for those of you skiers and snow-lovers, but for many this will be a welcome reprieve from the bitter cold we've been having. pic.twitter.com/JJTVvlt9qz

It also looks as though it's going to be warmer than average at least through Jan. 4.
