Pittsburgh Facing Wildfire Risk, Forecasters Say
Western PA also is expected to be affected by the ongoing Canadian wildfires this week.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Wildfires have torched millions of acres of land across Canada thus far this year and much of the Northeastern United States could see their own wildfires Tuesday - including Pittsburgh.
The National Weather Service says Western Pennsylvania has an elevated risk of wildfires developing due to dry and breezy surface conditions and the possibility of dry thunderstorms, which produce thunder and lightning but whose moisture evaporates before hitting the ground.
A highly unusual scenario supporting wildfire spread is possible today across parts of the Northeast. Dry/breezy surface conditions and dry thunderstorms are possible this afternoon. Gusty, erratic winds may also accompany the storms, further aggravating fire conditions. pic.twitter.com/Wt9nIJ6ncm

Meanwhile, State College-based AccuWeather forecasters say a dip in the jet stream will send smoke pouring down out of Canada and into the northern and eastern U.S. for much of the week. Smoke is expected to spread over much of the Great Lakes and portions of the interior Northeast while hazy conditions will be even more wide-reaching.
