Pittsburgh Fire Bureau Mourns Loss Of Veteran Firefighter
Lt. Randy Meyer spent more than 15 years with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire is mourning the loss of Lt. Randolph “Randy” Meyer, II who died on Aug. 19.
Meyer, 38, succumbed to appendiceal cancer, a rare form of the disease. His wife, Stephanie, said it was Meyer's mission to bring awareness to appendix cancer and to the ACPMP (Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation).
Meyer grew up in Hazelwood and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 2002. He attended the Pittsburgh Fire Training Academy and began his career with the Department of Public Safety as a firefighter in June 2007.

After a decade and a half of service, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2022.
“Randy was an exceptional man who embodied the spirit of what it means to be a firefighter: he was courageous, dedicated, and was always thinking of others," Bureau of Fire Chief Daryl Jones said in a statement.

"He was an excellent mentor to others in the bureau and he bravely fought his battle until the very end. “He will be greatly missed.”
