Pittsburgh Getting New Argentinean Restaurant

The flavors of Buenos Aires are about to arrive in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A New York City Argentinean restaurant is opening a second location in Pittsburgh. Balvanera, located at 1600 Smallman Street in the Strip District is slated to debut in a few weeks.

According tothe restaurant's website, Balvanera is the brainchild of Argentine Chef Fernando Navas, who has worked in kitchens in Barcelona, Miami and New York.

The menu reflects the cuisine of of Buenos Aires - porteña cuisine with influences from the dynamic regions of Argentina. The offerings include traditional small plates, composed vegetable dishes, signature carnes and friends and family-style platos.

The beverage menu has been developed in collaboration with Argentine Sommelier Nicolas Martianhes. It showcases a selection of Argentine wines, beer, sherry, vermouth, specialty small batch aperitifs and a Sangria de la Casa.

The restaurant takes its name from a historic ‘barrio’, or neighborhood, of Buenos Aires where poets, musicians and creatives once convened.
