Pittsburgh Getting New English-Themed Pub

PITTSBURGH, PA — For more than a dozen years, Hough's was a Greenfield tavern that drew throngs of craft beer and sports lovers. An era ended when it closed in May.

But that space on a prominent Greenfield Avenue corner soon will be reborn as the Midnight Whistler, an English-style pub. The bar is expected to open early next month.

It will be operated by the team that runs Necromancer Brewing in Ross, which has been enormously successful since its opening on Babcock Boulevard in 2021. The owner of both establishments is Ben Butler, who runs the award-winning Pittsburgh design and marketing communications company Top Hat.

Necromancer’s new spot will serve Necromancer beer along with guest taps.

"I’m excited to resurrect an old craft beer bar, make it ours, and have our beer there for everybody in the community,” Necromancer head brewer Lauren Hughes recently told HopCulture.com.

The menu will include English-inspired items.

According to a social media post on the pub's website, the Midnight Whistler will have a Founder's Club, whose members will enjoy considerable benefits. They include:

• A 20-ounce mug on the wall oz mug on the wall.

• Permanent 16-ounce prices on 20-ounce pours.

• A free beer on the member's birthday.

• Special events for members.

Memberships, which cost $75, can be obtained on Necromancer's website.

Necromancer's Inner Circle Club members will get the same discounts and benefits at the Midnight Whistler.
