Pittsburgh Grocery Store Again Hit With Consumer Alert

Numerous health violations were found at the store during a Thursday inspection.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Shop 'n Save on 56th Street in Lawrenceville.

A health inspector Thursday found one live and one dead mouse on a glue board under bread crumbs in aisle three. Fresh droppings also were found under shelving in that aisle, as was nesting material under the bread crumbs.

Fresh droppings also were found on the bottom shelf in aisle six with pretzels, chips and popcorn.

Old droppings were observed behind the bakery ovens and the end of the bread aisle.

Rodent chew marks were found on packages of dry beans in aisle three and on packages of chips, popcorn and pretzels in aisle six.

In aisle one, expired baby formula was found.

In the deli, old food debris was found on the slicer blade. The sanitizer at a sink was not dispensing sanitizer.

Two sinks in the bakery were not functional and a sink in the men's restroom did not have water.

This consumer alert is the third issued for the grocery store in less than a year. Alerts were issued in September 2022 and December 2022.

The store remains open.
