Pittsburgh Grocery Store Slapped With Consumer Alert

A Pittsburgh grocery store was cited for findings that virtually anyone would find gross.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Shop 'n Save on 56th Street in Lawrenceville after a recent inspection found a dozen dead mice in the store.

Eleven were found in a proposed new deli area. One was found in a trap by a walk-in cooler. County health inspectors found no evidence of current pest control company activity or recent treatments.

  • Broken walk-in cooler by the loading area.
  • Back storage area in the produce department.
  • Purposed new deli area.
  • Aisle 3 shelving.
  • The meat department tray storage shelf.

Rodent droppings also were observed on customer area shelves by the following items:

  • Rice
  • Lentils
  • Pasta
  • Prego
  • Cheese curls
  • Bread crumbs
  • Chicken gravy
  • Turkey gravy
  • Chili
  • Pork grind
  • Chicken chow mein
  • Soy sauce
  • Pretzels
  • Potato chips
  • Bread

The grocery store remains open while the alert is in effect.
