Pittsburgh Halloween Haunted House Guide 2023
Here's you Patch guide to this year's Pittsburgh-area haunted houses and attractions.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Scary season is upon us, as evidenced by the number of area haunted attractions that already have opened around Pittsburgh or are about to do so as Halloween approaches.
Some are inside, some outside. But all of them provide the intent to make visitors uneasy and frightened.
Think you can handle that? Then you might want want to visit one or more of the most popular haunted houses around town:

Phantom Fall Fest, Kennywood, West Mifflin: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 22 through Oct. 29.
The West Mifflin amusement park's signature autumn event will face six haunt spots this year: mALICE In Wonderland, Shady Grove, Villa of the Vampire, Dark Shadows, Voodoo Bayou and Kennywood Cemetery. Additionally, 14 of some of the park's most popular rides will be open to enjoy between scares, including the Thunderbolt, Jack Rabbit, Phantom's Revenge and, appropriate for the season, Ghostwood Estate.

ScareHouse, The Mall at Pittsburgh Mills: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 15 through Nov. 4.
ScareHouse has been ranked as one of “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions” by Travel Channel and has been featured on Good Morning America, The Daily Show, Travel Channel, CBS and ABC News, Buzzfeed, Forbes, Mental Floss and many other national media outlets. 'Nuff said.
Hundred Acres Manor, 1 Hundred Acres Drive, Bethel Park: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 through Oct. 29. Also open on Oct. 26 and Oct. 30-31.
Also a nationally recognized haunt, Pittsburgh's largest haunted house spans more than one mile and is filled with zombies, creatures, monsters and products of your worst nightmares. Terrifying? According to reviewers from Forbes, Yahoo, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Top Haunts magazine, HauntWorld.com, Pittsburgh Magazine and Pittsburgh City Paper, it sure is.
Portals of Fear, West Mifflin: Oct. 13-15, 21-22, 28-29.
This haunted attraction offers nightmarish creatures, hair-raising special effects and a sense of foreboding that will leave visitors trembling with fear. According to its website, the 10,000-square-foot haunt "promises an unforgettable journey into the unknown, where the boundary between reality and nightmare blurs, making it the ultimate destination for thrill-seekers during the Halloween season."
The Haunted Mine, Tarentum: Fridays and Saturdays in October.
Tour-Ed Mine offers a unique haunted house attraction designed to scare the daylights out of mine visitors. As the mine website puts it: "Not many recall the frightening, blood-curdling experience of the Tour-Ed Haunted Mine a decade ago because so few survived. Rumor has it more entered than came out and those who did are no longer to be found. The shaft has been reopened by those who are desperately searching for their missing tormented family and friends who
they believe still roam the deep shafts of The Haunted Mine." Creepy stuff, no?
