Pittsburgh Has Nation's Worst Drivers, Study Finds

New report by EverQuote has Pittsburgh and New York City motorists tied for the nation's worst.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Time to slam the brakes on the notion that Pittsburgh has an abundance of good drivers. A study released Wednesday by online insurance marketer EverQuote Inc. contends that the city is tied with New York City for having the nation’s worst motorists.

The study analyzed 11-months of driving habits through the beginning of March for 150,000 drivers who use EverQuote’s EverRide app.The rankings examined five driving activities: speeding, cellphone use, excess acceleration, hard braking and hard turning.

The report found that Pittsburgh motorists speed too much and use their cell phones too often while behind the wheel.

Which cities have the best drivers? According to EverQuote, the safest drivers are in Minneapolis-St. Paul, followed by Portland, Oregon and St. Louis.

The EverQuote report also isn’t kind to Pennsylvania motorists, KDKA-TV reported. The Keystone State ranked an abysmal 48th in driver safety, ahead of only Connecticut and Rhode Island. The best motorists can be found in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska and Wyoming.
